Room 2 Newsletters

During our time in the library Room 2 made some cool newsletters about our learning. We found images, facts and a title for our document (example: Room 2 Times, Sam's Storyline, Christina's Newsletter).  We used a really exciting programme called Pages and we can also create brochures, cards, invitations and letters.

Ki-o-Rahi

Room 2 had a fun-filled afternoon with Renee on Monday 10th March. She taught us about a traditional Maori game called ki-o-rahi. The story of Rahi's journey to find his wife, Ti Ara who was kidnapped and held captive in a volcano.  Along the way Rahi faced hardship and terrible danger including the taniwha who dwellt in the river.  Rahi was helped by the giant hokioi (eagle) and eventually he was reunited with his wife. The game of ki-o-rahi was invented as an agreement for peace between Rahi's tribe and the patupaiarehe who took Ti Ara.

Ki-o-rahi is a team game that we all enjoyed.  We loved being the taniwha, chasing after the kioma and ripping their tags off them and vice versa.  We are looking forward to learning more about the skills and tricks of the game over the next 4 sessions.  Kia ora Renee.

School Athletics Day Friday 7th March

We had an amazing day trying to break the records in throwing, running and jumping events. The best moment was the relays where our team, which includes John, Jacob R,Christina and Kehu, were the fastest class in Team Hillary. Then we faced Room 1 in the school relay where we came second. Overall it was a great day and everyone challenged themselves and encouraged others.

Learning in room 2

Term 1, Week 5 and learning continues to be the priority in Room 2.

These photos are showing small groups working on class displays of Digital Citizenship - the inquiry topic for Term 1.  We are creating a wondering wall filled with deep thinking questions relating to the topic.
